Wewoka Animal Hospital has emergency services available during regular business hours.

Emergency Care During Business Hours

If your pet experiences a medical emergency during our operating hours, please call us immediately at 405-257-6167. Providing advance notice allows us to prepare for your arrival and offer the most efficient care possible.

Common Pet Emergencies Include:

  • Severe bleeding or bleeding that doesn’t stop within five minutes
  • Choking, difficulty breathing, or nonstop coughing and gagging
  • Bleeding from the nose, mouth, rectum, coughing up blood, or blood in urine
  • Inability to urinate or pass feces, or obvious pain associated with urinating or passing stool
  • Injuries to your pet’s eyes
  • Suspected ingestion of poisonous substances (e.g., antifreeze, xylitol, chocolate, rodent poison)

After-Hours Emergency Care

While we strive to be there for you at all times, we currently do not offer after-hours emergency services. However, we have compiled a list of trusted emergency veterinary clinics in the area:

Recognizing a Pet Emergency

It’s crucial to recognize signs that indicate your pet needs immediate medical attention:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Severe bleeding
  • Ingestion of toxic substances
  • Severe vomiting or diarrhea
  • Inability to urinate
  • Seizures
  • Unconsciousness
  • Trauma or injury
  • Difficulty giving birth
  • Heatstroke or hypothermia

The ASPCA is your best resource for any animal poison-related emergency and are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Preparing a Pet First Aid Kit

Having a well-stocked first aid kit can be invaluable during emergencies. Essential items include:

  • Emergency contact information, 405-257-6167
  • Gauze and non-stick bandages
  • Antiseptic wipes or solution
  • Antibiotic ointment
  • Scissors and tweezers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Hydrogen peroxide (only under veterinary guidance)
  • Benadryl (consult your vet for proper dosage)
  • Saline solution
  • Blanket or towel
  • Emergency leash
