Puppy & Kitten Care in Wewoka, OK

Helping Your New Best Friend Thrive from the Start

Bringing home a new puppy or kitten is an exciting and joyful time—but it also comes with important responsibilities. Young pets have unique health needs, and early veterinary care plays a big role in helping them grow into healthy, well-behaved adults.

At Wewoka Animal Hospital, we offer gentle, thorough care designed just for puppies and kittens. From wellness exams and vaccinations to spaying/neutering and microchipping, we’re here to support you and your new pet every step of the way.

Puppy Care

Puppies grow quickly and need multiple vet visits during their first few months to ensure a healthy start. Whether you have a tiny Chihuahua or a big, bouncy Labrador, our veterinary team will guide you through every stage of puppyhood.

Puppy Vaccine Schedule:

To protect your puppy from contagious diseases like parvovirus and distemper, we recommend this vaccine timeline:

  • 6–8 weeks: First vaccinations
  • 10–12 weeks: Booster
  • 14–16 weeks: Final round

Our team will also check for any signs of illness, answer your questions, and help you set the foundation for a happy, healthy future.

Supporting Your Puppy’s Early Health Needs

Every puppy is unique, and our care approach is tailored to their breed, age, and lifestyle. During wellness visits, we’ll monitor your puppy’s overall health and development, while offering personalized recommendations for:

  • Vaccination planning based on risk factors and lifestyle
  • Parasite prevention (e.g., deworming, flea/tick, heartworm)
  • Nutrition and feeding guidance appropriate for their age and size
  • Behavior and training tips, including socialization and teething support
  • Microchipping and spay/neuter timing, when appropriate
  • Ongoing health monitoring, including weight and body condition tracking

We encourage you to bring questions to every visit—we’re here to help you feel confident through every stage of puppyhood!

Kitten Care

Kittens are playful, curious, and incredibly delicate in their early months. They need special care and attention to grow into strong, healthy adult cats.

We provide gentle, stress-free care for kittens, including wellness exams, parasite control, behavior advice, and vaccinations.

Important tip: If you have other cats at home, we recommend keeping your new kitten in a separate room and testing for FeLV/FIV before introducing them.

Kitten Vaccine Schedule:

Most kittens follow a three-visit vaccination series:

  • 6–8 weeks: Initial vaccines
  • 10–12 weeks: Booster
  • 14–16 weeks: Final round

These appointments help protect your kitten from common but serious feline diseases.

Gentle, Individualized Kitten Care

Your kitten’s early visits focus on keeping them safe, healthy, and comfortable as they grow. We’ll perform a thorough physical exam and, depending on your kitten’s needs, may recommend:

  • Vaccination scheduling tailored to their age and exposure risks
  • Parasite screening and deworming if indicated
  • Feline leukemia/FIV testing for new or multi-cat households
  • Nutritional advice, litter box tips, and safe enrichment ideas
  • Spay/neuter guidance and when to consider microchipping

Not all services are needed at every visit—but we’ll walk you through each step and help you make the best decisions for your kitten’s health.

Spaying & Neutering Services

Spaying and neutering are important procedures that protect your pet’s health and help control the pet population.

Benefits of Spaying or Neutering:

  • Improves long-term health: Reduces risk of certain cancers and infections
  • Promotes better behavior: Less marking, roaming, and aggression
  • Prevents unwanted litters: Helps reduce overcrowding in shelters

Spaying (Females): Removes ovaries and uterus, preventing heat cycles and uterine disease.

Neutering (Males): Removes testes, reducing risk of testicular cancer and certain behavioral issues.

We typically recommend these procedures around 6 months of age, before pets reach sexual maturity.

Pet Microchipping

One of the most important steps you can take to keep your pet safe is microchipping. A microchip provides permanent identification that greatly increases the chance of reuniting with your pet if they ever get lost.

How It Works:

  • A tiny chip (about the size of a grain of rice) is implanted just under your pet’s skin
  • The chip holds a unique ID number linked to your contact info
  • If your pet is found, shelters and vets can scan the chip and contact you

Why Microchipping Matters:

  • Can’t be lost or removed like a collar tag
  • Microchipped dogs are 2.5x more likely to be reunited with owners
  • Cats with microchips are 20x more likely to find their way home

After the chip is placed, we’ll help you register it and update your info as needed.

Don’t forget: If you move or change phone numbers, update your pet’s chip right away!
