Wellness Exams for Happier, Healthier Pets
Your pet’s health starts with prevention—and at Wewoka Animal Hospital, we’re here to support you every step of the way. Routine wellness exams are one of the most important tools we have to help your dog or cat live a longer, healthier, and happier life.
During a wellness visit, our veterinarians perform a nose-to-tail checkup that’s tailored to your pet’s age, health history, and individual needs.
- Observing your pet’s weight, mobility, and overall condition
- Checking the skin, coat, eyes, ears, nose, and mouth for signs of concern
- Listening to the heart and lungs with a stethoscope
- Gently feeling (palpating) areas such as the abdomen or joints, as tolerated
- Reviewing vaccination status, diet, and lifestyle factors
These wellness exams help us catch potential issues early—often before outward symptoms develop. Early detection means more treatment options, improved outcomes, and reduced long-term costs.
We also welcome your observations. Changes in behavior, appetite, or energy levels can offer valuable insight, and your input helps us provide the most complete care possible.
Vaccinations: Protecting Your Pet from Preventable Diseases
Vaccines are a key part of your pet’s wellness plan. They help protect dogs and cats from contagious—and sometimes deadly—illnesses.
At Wewoka Animal Hospital, we customize each pet’s vaccine schedule based on their age, lifestyle, environment, and risk level. Our veterinary team will work with you to ensure your pet is fully protected with both core and lifestyle-based (non-core) vaccines.
Core Vaccines
Recommended for All Pets
- Dogs: DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza) and Rabies
- Cats: FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia) and Rabies
Non-Core Vaccines
Based on Risk Factors
- Dogs: Bordetella (kennel cough), Lyme Disease, Leptospirosis
- Cats: Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV), Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)
Year-Round Parasite Prevention
Parasites are more than just a nuisance—they can seriously impact your pet’s health and even put your family at risk. That’s why year-round parasite prevention is essential.
We offer preventative care plans that include routine testing and medications to protect your pet from:
- Fleas: Cause intense itching, skin infections, and can lead to anemia.
- Ticks: Can transmit serious diseases like Lyme and ehrlichiosis.
- Heartworms: Spread by mosquitoes, potentially fatal if untreated.
- Intestinal Worms: Like roundworms, hookworms, and tapeworms—some can spread to humans.
- Ear Mites: Especially common in cats, causing intense irritation.
How We Help Protect Your Pet:
- Monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention
- Fecal exams to detect intestinal parasites
- Routine deworming as needed
- Guidance on keeping your home and yard pest-free
- Tips on grooming and early detection

Pet Microchipping
A lost pet can happen to anyone. Microchipping provides a permanent, tamper-proof form of ID that greatly increases the chances of being reunited.
The microchipping process is quick, safe, and can be done during any routine visit. Each chip is registered to your contact info in a national pet recovery database.
Helpful Tip: Be sure to update your contact information if you move or change phone numbers. And always pair a microchip with visible ID tags on your pet’s collar.

Managing Allergies and Skin Conditions in Pets
Common Pet Skin Issues:
- Atopic Dermatitis: Allergic reactions to pollen, mold, or dust. It is caused by an allergic reaction to environmental allergens such as pollen, dust, mites, and mold.
- Food Allergies: Often show up as skin irritation or digestive problems. These occur when a pet’s immune system reacts to a specific ingredient in the food they consume.
- Flea Allergy Dermatitis: Caused by sensitivity to flea saliva. Pets may experience intense itching, hair loss, and skin irritation. This could be easily prevented by regularly treating your pets for fleas and keeping their environment clean.
